Improvisateur plein d?imagination, pourvu d?une grande aisance technique et d?une sonorité chaude et lumineuse, Theodore "Fats" Navarro représentait un idéal d?équilibre dans les domaines mélodique, harmonique et rythmique, alors qu?il brûlait la vie sans aucune retenue.

This trumpet genius had an extremely brief career (he died in 1950 at the age of 26). Yet his name will remain engraved forever in the Jazz Hall of Fame. His recorded work, a good part of which is collected here, and the considerable influence he exercised (and continues to exert) over trumpeters, made him a magnificent artist of the first order. An imaginative improviser with a technique that left him totally at ease, and a player whose sound was warm and luminous, Theodore ?Fats? Navarro represented a sort of ideal balance between melody, harmony and rhythm even though his personal life knew no restraint.
